Who qualifies for the Wrangler NFR?
There are a total of 120 contestants in seven events who compete every night, and only 15 of them make it to the final. The top 15 contestants are chosen according to the PRCA world standing for each event held.
Some of these events include:
- Bareback riding.
- Steer wrestling.
- Saddle bronc riding.
- Tie-down roping.
- Team roping (headers and heelers)
- Barrel racing and bull riding (chosen according to the money earned during the regular seasons).
- The Justin Boots Playoffs and Championships.
- PRCA Xtreme bulls tour.
How are champions determined?
For the 10 consecutive days, there are 10 rounds where cowboys and barrel racers earn money depending on their positions in each round.
The first-place slot through sixth in any round, the contestant earns a significant amount of money, and those who earn more are placed first through the eighth round (average points earned or cumulative times during the 10 rounds).
At the end of the Wrangler NFR, the champion is selected depending on the total season earnings. These earnings include what they won before the Wrangler NFR and what they win during the Wrangler NFR.
So, we can have at least two champions in each event, the average winner (one with the best cumulative score or time over the 10 rounds), and the world champion (one who earned the most money in that year).
However, in some instances, the world champion and average winner can either be the same person or different people for each event.
